Bittner Audio for the Announcement System in the New Elbe Tunnel Hamburg

Since 2010 the three older bores of the New Elbe Tunnel are being renovated. The tunnel has a total length of more than three kilometres and a daily capacity of about 120,000 vehicles. It is one of the longest and most important underwater tunnels in the world.

Bittner Audio power amplifiers guarantee reliable amplification of the audio signals in a novel Synchronised Longitudinal Announcement Speaker System SLASS. The system has specially been developed for high speech intelligibility in tunnels. Designer is Oliver Reimann (Sprech-Fabrik Engineering), who has made his mark for road tunnel announcement systems. Customer is Salzbrenner Stagetec Audio Video Mediensysteme.

A total of 27 Bittner 8X100 power amplifiers with 8XT100 multi-channel output transformers will be used. Each 100-V-output drives an innovative pressure-zone horn speaker in the tunnel. In addition, conventional loudspeakers are used for the evacuation tunnels. Construction work in bore 2 has already been finished, the three ELA systems of this bore have been put into operation in autumn 2010. At the moment, renovation work is under way in bore 3, followed by bore 1. Expected end of construction work is in autumn 2012.
